HP Deskjet 2540 Review

This all-in-one inkjet printer is a high-end printer – that is, one that has a flatbed scanner and offers users more optimized scanning and photocopying and printing facilities. Various amazing features have been added over the years, to increase utilization.

HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer series

Most all-in-one printers sold at this price are limited to USB connectivity, only supporting a direct connection to your computer. Not so with the HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One. With notebooks long since taking over from desktops as the most popular PC form factor, and mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones also now very popular, wireless connectivity has almost become an essential requirement for printer use for both the office and home.

The HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One is made to look quite attractive. The ivory white finish and relatively small footprint make it ideal for use in the office and at home. The front sweeps back from top to bottom, making it look very attractive. This also means that even though the scanner is A4 in size, the bottom of the HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One is only 18cm deep.

The controls on the printer are very basic, consisting of half a dozen buttons and a trio of LED indicators that indicate when the ink is running low, or a wireless connection is established. The printer screen remains as is and measures only 2 cm by 4 cm, and displays only the number of copies, media errors, and wireless signal strength.

The appearance of the HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One and its shortcomings in media printing are not the only reasons why it is not ideal for photographers. It also doesn't have borderless printing. Although overall paper handling is very basic, there is no automatic Duplex and backsheet feeder as the only input sources and no internal paper tray.

The HP Deskjet 2540 is surprisingly good at printing images too, and that's impressive considering the price of the printer. Using good quality photo paper and the Maximum DPI quality setting, photos are almost flawlessly realized, with smooth and consistent colors, sharp details and no banding or other imperfections.
